You do not have to sew to make neat crests. I have made them from: Felt and fabric paint, leatherette and fabric paint. Felt with leatherette glued on: Native Lore Theme - felt owl on leatherette backing with fabric paint Camp name and year. Beads on a pin with a ribbon banner tied to hole in pin with name of event, thing, written on in colored pen on the ribbon. Bread ties with ribbon, red, blue and white glued on. You don't need a pin you just attach to brim of hat, gold plastic shopping bags cut into circles and glued to cardboard with fabric paint writing, stickers make good crests or badges. I have photocopied overhead projection sheets with the name of the event and a picture, rainbow, etc. and had the girls colour them with markers. You could even purchase fabric with recycled crests a few years ago and just ironed them onto felt with double sided iron on pelon. There is also my very favorite craft supply - shrink art!
