Catch the Ball - a Game from Brazil

Girls sit in a circle, and each girl is given a number. One girl is in the center holding a ball. She calls out a number and throws the ball in the air. The person with that number has to catch the ball before it touches the floor. Depending on how you want to score the game, if she misses she is out, or loses a life. Or, if she catches it, she wins a point and gets to throw the ball in the air next time. If the player in the middle calls out the number of someone who is already out, she is also out.

I have also played this game by using a spinning tray or a long handled broom rather than a ball - it worked better with the younger ones who were not too good at catching. (Just make sure you have a big enough circle for the broom to fall without hitting anyone!)
