Afghan Biscuits from New Zealand
Makes about 25 biscuits.
Ingredients:

7 oz butter
-
2 oz caster sugar
-
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
-
2 oz chopped dates
-
6 oz plain flour
-
1 oz cocoa powder
-
1 teaspoon baking powder
-
2 oz cornflakes - crushed
Method:

Place butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and cream together until soft,
light and fluffy.

Blend in vanilla essence and dates.

Sieve flour, cocoa and baking powder into mixture and fold in

Fold in cornflakes.

Divide into 25 pieces and press into flat circles.
-
Place on a greased baking tray.

Bake in a moderate oven (350-375F/Gas 4-5) until firm to the touch.

Cool on a wire tray.

When cold, these biscuits can be decorated with chocolate icing.
