A Variation on 'Newspaper Walk' - a game from Portugal

For the original version of this game, look in the book 'World Games and Recipes', published by WAGGGS.

My variation - don't know whether it comes from Portugal, but I like it for the teamwork element! Each team stands in line with a chair opposite them at the other end of the room. Each person stands on a sheet of newspaper, and the first person has an extra sheet. At the starting signal, the first person puts her extra sheet in front of her and moves onto it. Everyone else behind her also moves forward one sheet. The last person picks up the spare sheet from the end of the line. The sheet is passed along the line, until the front person receives it. The process then begins again. The teams keep going until the front person reaches the chair. The winning team is the fastest team. Note - the girls quickly learn that it is not necessarily quicker to have large spaces between the newspaper, as this usually means that someone will step on the floor instead - I usually have a rule that says if someone stands on the floor, the team has to go back to the beginning again!!
