225g (8 oz) self raising flour
40g (1 ½ oz) margarine
1 ½ tablespoons sugar
pinch of salt
150 ml (¼ pint) milk
extra flour for rolling out dough
Another idea is to add grated cheese or sultanas with the dry ingredients
to make cheese or sultana scones.
Heat oven to 425F, 220C, Gas Mark 7.
Rub margarine into the flour with your fingertips until it looks like bread
Stir in sugar and salt
Slowly add milk, stirring all the time, until mixture is stiff
Sprinkle extra flour onto a table or pastry board, and roll out dough until
it is about 2 cm thick
Cut out round shapes
Place scones on greased tray, and cook for about 12 to 15 minutes
