Straw Dollies - a Craft from the UK
This is a country craft. Usually the last stems of straw
are cut from a field to make these 'dollies'. I have used such in this
craft but grown straw has to be soaked in water before they are fit to
use - so - to teach this craft I use the 'Art Straws'. When I was in Banff,
I made a small basket for Courtney Evanchu by a similar method.
'Art Straws' ... Here in the UK these are readily available - they are
a paper straw (as in the old fashioned drinking straws) without the wax
covering and therefore they can be painted before or after use to suit
the particular desire of the artist. :-))
