Cookie Jar - a Game from the USA

Everyone sits in a circle, with their legs out straight in front of them. They slap their thighs and clap their hands alternately to keep the rhythm while saying the following:

All: Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Leader: Not I stole the cookie from the cookie jar.
All: Then who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?
Leader: 'Twas Mary stole the cookie from the cookie jar.
Mary: Not I stole the cookie from the cookie jar.
All: Then who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?

Mary names another person, and so on.

The rhythm must remain steady the whole time. The difficult part, is that the new person who is named each time, must pick up the rhythm straight away on the word "not", otherwise it will not fit in.
