Rattlesnake

Equipment: One pair of clean pantihose. Cut on leg off. Stuff the rest of the pantihose into the toe of the cut off leg, knot the cut leg, so that it doesn't fall apart - this is the snake. For the rattle you need a tin, or plastic container with a lid, filled with dried peas, beans or rice. And a blindfold.
(I keep these things together, so that we have all the parts on hand for this 'favourite' game.)
Number of kids: More than 8
Ages: 5 and up.
Category: Active (loud, but enclosed in a circle)
Source: Doris with 1st Slemon Park Beavers in 1984.

Select two children to be the snake and the rattle. Have the rest of the children make a circle around them. The snake is blindfolded. It is her job to swing the pantihose leg and strike the rattle with it. The rattle is to shake the tin of beans all the time. She may dodge and run away, but MUST stay inside the circle. When the rattle is struck, I let each of them pick a person to replace them. The kids love this game, I will only play it for about 10 minutes at a stretch so as to not over use it.
